Well, maybe not, but I guess I could have. I was on my solo flight from Travis to an airport about 75 miles north of here. Everything was going well, but at about 15 miles from my destination, my VOR navigation equipment started going crazy. I thought it was due to some interference or something, so I turned it off since I could see the airport anyways. When I went to switch radio frequencies, the radio quit and wouldn't turn back on. Slowly, the electrical components started failing. I figured this was due to a bad alternator or battery, so I turned off all the nav lights and electrical stuff I didn't need. I was able to turn the radio back on, but couldn't talk on it, only listen. Luckily there was no other planes around the airport. I flew over the airport to figure out which runway to use, then went around and started my approach. When it was time to lower my flaps, I hit the switch, but nothing happened. I started turning off all the electrical systems to see if that would help. Well, it did, and I got the flaps to lower very slowly. I made a normal landing and thanked the Lord when I was on the ground. When I think back on it, I am glad it happened because it made me realize that things like that can really happen and the training I had really paid off. So anyways, that was my exciting day. Tomorrow a few of us are going to Sac to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. Should be a good time. Well I am gonna relax. It was a long day.
