Santiago: hace mucho calor.

After a very, very, very long flight I finally arrived in San. on the 1st of Jan. That's right my new year started in Chile. For those of you who wondered, they did serve free Champagne on the plane and there was very few people on it. Since I had spent many a gross hour in airports that day (not a big fan of JFK) I wasn't exactly in the festive spirit, but it was nice esp. since I was on my final flight to San. from Miami.

Once I got through the airport the heat hit, and it was really refreshing. While driving to the hostel I had an overwhelming feeling of calmness, possibly because I found the shuttle bus to get to the hostel right away (little things like this make my travels happy). The city itself is about 5 million or so and pretty easy to get around. I spent some of my time walking around, seeing the sights (there arn't many). Two included national parks, which were hugh mounds of land in the middle of the city with trees, stone stairs and amazing views. One is the Cerro Santa Lucía and the other is Cerro San Cristóbal. The hostel I stayed at was great "casa roja", lots of friendly ppl, cheap dorm rooms oh and best yet a back courtyard that had a pool. Due to bad timeing (hollidays) on arriving to Chile, and personally wanting some downtime, I stayed until the 4th. I'm starting to realize I'm not really a big city gal, I enjoyed my time there, but didn't need a lot it. If I do return to San. it would probably be more to stay with a friend and check out the nightlife, its not really ideal for the backpack stint.
