I first noticed it in the sky in streaks, similar to shooting stars- only in broad daylight without a cloud in sight. I tried pointing this out to my acquaintances, but much to my frustration they did not see it. I walked to the end of the street and witnessed gray and white vapor, spiraling towards me. As it grew closer, a purple ring was formed, turning into a tube, a Slinky wiggling. As it grew larger and nearer, it reminded me of a black hole-type entity. I was awestricken and curious as I sensed the gravity of this airborne and unearthly object.
Wanting to know more, I wondered what would happen if I pointed my finger at this object, creating a lightning rod of sorts. In an instant I was airborne, no longer affected by gravity inside the cylinder. I saw my friends come running after me, with an implied lack of concern due to the foolish nature of my action. I felt the field drawing me inward and outward with a velocity not yet known to man. It was then that I felt doubt and fear, and as my stomach dropped I let out a scream that was loud enough to wake me from my sleep.
Wanting to know more, I closed my eyes and continued being drawn into dimensions unknown. The result was not all that unfamiliar at first; a portal into an alternate world where all the same rules apply. However, conditions there were different, accompanied by a feeling of relative euphoria. I couldn't begin to describe this place, much like trying to describe a color never witnessed by humankind. It was a world where all was understood, all was well, and all was right.
At one point I woke up covered in what appeared to be a spider web. When I stood up in shock, I noticed a severely oversized black widow spider crawling on me. In a panic, I batted the spider from my garment. I then proceeded to grab the nearest object and smash the deadly insect into an amber pulp. Because this was not real life, I felt immediate concern over whether or not this was some sort of bad omen, so I didn't mention it to anyone. I feared that this action would disallow me from coming back ever again.
Instead I asked questions.
"What happens when I come here?"
"Life in the real world ends for the day and you wake up the next morning."
"But I don't want to go back. Can't I just stay here forever?"
"You cannot. You must go back to live life as you've always known it. You may return periodically, but you can never stay. If you do choose to stay, the body will die. And without a living body, life will cease to exist. You won't be able to return to either place."
So they sent me home and I woke up yet again. Silly as it may seem, I still stare into the sky, seeking that purple portal. I don't know if I'll ever find it again, but I do believe that it may manifest itself in an alternate form.
