I have a new friend!
I was driving home late Friday night when I saw something staring at me from the middle of the road. I turned around and it was a little baby raccoon. It didn't look like it could walk and had obviously been hit by a car. Poor little bugger. I grabbed a blanket from the back of my car and put it in the trunk.
It was about 2 am so I gave the ER clinic a call to let them know what I was bringing in. I thought we'd have to euthanize it since car + raccoon usually does not end well. The Doc said everything looked ok, 'cept for a few scratches so of course it came home to spend the night in my bathroom with a sign that read "Raccoon inside... sorry" so my sister knew what to expect.
Its young enough to be friendly, and still too much of a baby to be without its mom so looks like I have a friend for awhile. The lady next door is an animal control officer and since I'm rabies vaccinated she said I could keep it until it was old enough to release. She also gave us some pointers as to how to teach it to dig for worms and such. Anyway.. leave it to me to bring home a cute baby raccoon!
