REAAAVERS!

Although the name is Firefly based, the game they are in is a Lord of the Rings miniatures battle game.

Games Workshop has released a little game called "Battle Companies" that allows you to field a small force of warriors who gain experience as they fight other companies. How small? The normal max is 15 miniatures.

You don't get Aragorn or Saruman or Theoden, or even Merry or Pippin; you're stuck with normal folk, primarily. Except that they don't stay normal.

Take my force: Bargrim's Reavers. It's a force of Moria Goblins. I started with 12 goblins, 3 of whom did start with some very minor heroic characteristics (just like every other company). Six battles later, it's a force of 25 miniatures (Moria Goblins have a larger upper limit than any other Company) with four heroes whose record stands at 5-0-1.

Yes, five wins, no losses, one draw. Pathetic Moria Goblins. Every time I've played, the company moves forward, suffering what it must until it can swarm over it's outnumbered foes and shred them. The only draw? The enemy was wise to this trick and kept backing away, trying to bleed way my numberic edge... I almost broke him anyway. The game ended one turn before the slaughter of Uruk-Hai would have begun in earnest...

I just finished painting Bargrim and his Reavers. OK, 'finished' is misleading - ther is still a few little details that need doing. But the main job is done. The final details can wait until next time.

I'll take a few shots of the Reavers tonight, both alone and in action against the Rohirrim and the Uruk-Hai...

lotr, reavers
