He doesn't even know why he's considering taking anything she says seriously; unless schoolteachers are trained in the art of war, the woman has no experience as a military tactician.

And then, she drops her poker face - so convincing that he didn't know she had one - and he sees her for the first time. She pulls the blazer more tightly around her, shivering. Her hands shake as she folds them on her lap.

She slides one hand around his shoulder, intertwines her fingers with his other hand, and matches him move for move. Her hair tumbles around her shoulders as sings the words to the song, ( ... )

You betcha. See, in case you forgot, Bill is flag fucking Admiral of the Idiot Fleet, and OBVIOUSLY, since Laura is not military, she's not competent when it comes to making logical, strategic decisions. And your inner Laura is quite right, because I have a sneaking suspicion that NOTHING frightens Bill more than a few small children hanging all over him and not listening to a word he's saying and Gods, why is that woman not completely INSANE from this?
That scene was one of, like, three in the entire series pre-S3 in which the Roslin/Adama worked for me, and you NAILED that.

Btw, if it's not too bold of me to suggest, this would make a wicked fic!
But I believe there's one fundamental difference between Laura and CarolAnne when it comes to Bill's innate idiocy around women - if she really loved him, Laura would have fought for him. She would NOT have put up with the constant moving around, or him keeping his personal and military life seperate. She wouldn't have tolerated his passive-agressive behavior of "oops, I forgot to tell you I got assigned to the _____". And if he'd tried ANY of it, she'd have locked them in a room together, slapped him upside the head, and gone "do you have ANY clue how unbelievably stupid you're being?!" And by the same token, I think being married to a women who DIDN'T simply tolerate his behavior would have made Bill realize you can't pull that passive-agressive shit on your wife.

Laura marrying Bill in some crazy alternate universe? Hmmmm, idea has merit, definitely, but I'm not sure I can do any better than pekeana's "Under the Arches of Moonlight and Sky" (I know, they weren't actually married, but they had a kid and whatnot), or kimbari's "Triangle". Especially "Triangle" - Good God, was that fantastically written and in-character.

And not Laura marrying Bill, but the bit about her cracking down on his arse when he think he can just go to work whenever and wherever he likes, leaving the kiddies with her.
