Another event promoted by Elegant Decadence at Nambucca - with more apparently being planned for the future.
Anniversary Circle, the opening act, are a three-piece that have been playing intermittently for a while, featuring the time-honoured combination of guitar, bass, female vocals, and a recalcitrant drum machine, and a sound that reminded me at least of Siouxsie and the Banshees.
The Faces of Sarah (site has embedded autoplayer) are a band I first saw a while ago (at Electrowerkz, I vaguely think), again with an intermittent gig schedule. A full four-piece, with a human (possibly) drummer, and powerful male vocals.
Pretentious Moi?, the headliners, started life as the solo project of Tim Chandler from Manuskript, but has been busy acquiring guitarists (three, so far), and, with this gig, a bassist too, in the shape of Mike Uwins from Manuskript. And a drum machine, as fitting another person on stage could have been challenging.
So, three good bands, all mining the deep dark seam of guitar-based goth rock, in slightly differing directions ... see them!
