On Friday evening promoter Elegant Decadence put on their second event at Nambucca in Islington. A long-term stop on the alternative gig scene, Nambucca had a refurb some time ago which not only freed up a lot of space in the main bar area, but opened up the venue part of the building, shifting the stage around and improving sight-lines. Definitely an improvement.
On the day of the gig, Carl from Elegant Decadence was contacted by a couple of acts whose gig that evening had fallen through, so he added them to the bill, resulting in a five-act bill.
Hathors (a grunge-influenced three-piece) and
The Graphic (guitar-and-drums two-piece) were the new acts, while
Zeitgeist Zero (goth-industrial-pop),
Last July (electronic goth duo with additional guitar and bass), and
Skeletal Family (goth/punk rock) were the line-up from the original plan. All the bands experienced intermittent sound problems, especially with the vocal and monitor lines, but managed to fight on through to acclaim from the crowd.
(Appropriate between-band music was provided by DJ Psyche.)
