I can't stop listening to Vurt.
It's a 90ies scifi novel by Jeff Noon, and it's rather fantastic, in a fucked up way. The person who recommended it to me described it as "something like a cross between Trainspotting and Blade Runner".
I usually don't even like Audiobooks, because I'm really scatterbrained and have a hard time concentrating on somebody reading to me, but Paul McGann does so much more than just reading it. Apart from his lovely voice and the lovely Mancunian accent, he just does a great job doing different voices for each character and handling the action scenes and drugged-out sequences. I also really like the story, although I could do without the incestuous back story romance.
I can't help thinking though, what kind of parents name one of their children Desdemona, and the other... Stephen? I mean, seriously, I have a slightly unusual (though not completely bizarre) name myself - so does my sister. My boyfriend's name is quite common - so is his brother's. One of my best friend's name is common, but works in German and Spanish - so does her brothers (their mother is Austrian, the father from Colombia). Parents usual follow a theme with names, don't they? I even know a Korean family, where all the girls' names have two syllables and end in an A. I know that's a bit extreme, but honestly, Desdemona and Stephen?
Also, the Wikipedia page claims that Desdemona (the female half the incestuous sister/brother couple) was based a bit on, well, Desdemona from Othello, and while it's been a while since I've read/seen Othello, I can't see any similarities between the characters.
