Today was a pretty awesome day.
I'm weird and try hard to keep my "cool aunt" status with Kaity & Robert. But I haven't really been to my sister's house in a long time, nor when I was there was I really rested enough. Being cool means running all over the place, watching a 8 year old hand you your ass while playing the Wii, and just generally being dragged into two different directions. So the last few times, I just wanted to sit around, hang out, and catch up with my sister.
Not today. Today I was the third kid running around - and I know at least Kaity still thinks that I'm massively cool.
It's a tradition that each year my Mom (and I by default of being here) help the kids roll out cookie dough, cut out shapes, and decorate the cookies for baking. This being our job cause Eva doesn't want to handle the massive amount of flour that goes everywhere when we do this. So this year, I was the one to open the door to The Flour Mess (tm). I added a flour mustache (and later goatee) to my face and to Kaity's face. Then of course Robert had to do it to my Mom and himself. It made for some awesome pictures - although I had a TON of flour on my face before it was all over.
Maybe it's weird that I think about it so much - but I used to be the kids only aunt. And now they have two others - and they see me less. I miss being their only aunt. I can still remember some times Kaity saved my sanity and snapped me out of some holiday depression. She probably will never know or realize it, but her instance that I was her "Cool Aunt Diana" some Easters ago righted a few things for me.(Someone jokingly at the time pointed out I was her only aunt, and Kaity, not realizing it was said in jest, threw a small fit saying that I was the coolest aunt ever and that was that.)
So today I ran around like I was 5 again ... I'm paying for it cause it's 10:30 and I'm falling asleep while typing here. But at least I may have regain some of my coolest aunt status ... so it was worth it.
...that and it was hysterical to see the kids with flour mustaches. :D
