OMG! MEDICATION WORKS PPL DON'T KNOCK IT!

We have a lot of ppl who don't like to take meds, even tho they totally should. I've had ppl with cholestrols as high as 450, and their blood was half SOLID after we drew it. Yet they refused to even try medication (for reference it's supposed to be under 200). "I don't want to put foreign chemicals in my body, that's bad for me." SO IS THAT MUCH CHOLESTROL IN YOUR BLOOD - WHEN YOU HAVE CARDIAC FAILURE DON'T CALL ME!

I can understand, probably better than most of the office, that some ppl would like to try "natural remedies." The medical profession on the whole, mostly scorns natural remedies but I can see why some ppl are wary to add another medication to their lives. But believe me, there's a fucking line!

It just gets sad when I have to write "patient refused medication" over and over in someone's chart, when in their case the meds would do them worlds of good. (And I'd also like to get snarky with them "oh, I see you had a pacemaker put in as well. Cause we all know how natural a hunk of metal and a battery is! Perfectly natural!")

And then I got a call from one of our "famous" patients today. In the past she was famous for having the most absurd hour long phone calls to our office. I'm not a doctor but after talking to her for 5 minutes, I could tell that the lady desparately needed mental help. Recently she received some help from another doctor in in the form of Lexapro ... THANK GOD FOR LEXAPRO! She was a totally different person the phone today. She's a shining example of someone who's life was turned around by a little pill once a day.

work, medical office woes
