Staying healthy in Bethlehem

Mar 05, 2009 20:41

Just back from taking my landlady's grandkids for a nighttime run; a real good workout! Man, these little paths the kids use through South Bethlehem are steep, and narrow, and icy, and very dark at night. And the kids just run up and down all of them like they were nothing. At least I was able to (mostly) keep up with them.

I correctly guessed that the area's much cleaner now than it was when the Steel was running; apparently, the air was quite thick before.

I asked about the typical death rate; some say the plant lost about a worker a month due to one accident or another. I'm sure the air pollution was also a major factor, though slightly less direct. The funerals were apparently rather regular.
