It's the obligatory grad post, just 3 weeks late!!
So I've [almost] graduated college. I technically have one more class standing in between me and my diploma, but more on that later.
It's a little fuzzy, but the picture above is my graduation cap. I thought I'd add some "pieces of flair" to it to help me stand out from the rest of my classmates.
That's as much as I had written May 18th, only a few hours after my grad ceremony and roughly half an hour after all my family (thankfully) left my dorm. I then felt a surge of many different emotions and couldn't finish. I figured I should say something to acknowledge the fact that I'm still alive (though I think you all knew that). I'm still in Allentown (though not for much longer) working on the conference staff. The dynamic is different this year, with five assistants instead of last year's two. I've moved to
Leh (pronounced lay) Street into an apartment with one of the girls from my staff/a new sister in Phi Mu, Becca. Life has been quiet for the most part; we haven't really been home at the same time since she works 8:30-4:30 M-F and my schedule has been nonexistent at worst and flexible at best. Not to mention I've had vacation time and an interview that I needed to go back to LI for. I've abandoned her quite a bit. I keep joking with her that I'm merely training her for July and August since I'll be gone for good after this month, but I think she just blocks that part of the conversation out.
I am taking Italian 101 at Nassau Community College to fulfill that last blasted credit to authentically receive my BA. The class starts on July 7th and goes from 10a-12pm M-Th. Having 7 years of Spanish under my belt will probably confuse me a bit but otherwise I'm glad my last credit is something I'm looking forward to. It's not physics, polysci, or philosophy, so I'm pretty happy.
The big hurdle these past few weeks has been writing thank you notes to family and friends, and I finally mailed them out today. In total, I might have spent 45 minutes writing 8 cards. The way I carried on though, you would have thought I had to write a thesis paper. I'm glad to have that burden lifted.
The next burden is finding employment. I've been called back for a second interview with
NY Promotional Events, which I might have told some of you about already. They work mostly with children's charities and their biggest partner is DARE. The first interview was all of five minutes with a guy named Vito, and it left me feeling very uncertain if it was even bother following up with. But the next interview is a full day from 9-5, and after questioning the receptionist, I was able to at least determine that I wasn't going for an internship. She dodged the issue of payment completely though, stating that to get more information I would need to go through with the second interview. I also am not sure how much sales plays into these positions (that's another thing: no one will tell me what positions are open!), and if it's going to mean door-to-door shit I want out. Still, it can't hurt to get information and there's no pressure to run back and get the interview done immediately.
That should be enough to cover me for the next few weeks. Hopefully the next update will include the gleeful phrase "I am employed!"
