Nicholas lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Tomorrow, he was going to leave Aurora forever, and his mind was filled with nothing but regrets. He wondered what would have happpened if he went the other way, if he took a risk and forgot about his reputation. He shook his head and sat up. Glancing at the window, he noticed the full moon and decided that maybe a midnight stroll will clear his head.
He walked down the halls, unperturbed at the silence of it all. That was when he heard this singing from the distance. He stopped, his heart beating wildly in his chest at the eerily familiar voice reaching his ears.
He continued walking, faster and faster until he started running. A type of desperation taking control of him as he followed that voice, wanting to see her, to hold her, to tell her how he really felt. At last, he stopped in front of the entrance of an old tower. Taking a step forward, her voice resounded clearer, stronger, and he knew that he was near.
Not breaking a sweat, he followed the winding staircase until he reached the top. Looking outside, at the balcony, his heart skipped a beat as he saw her there, sitting on the edge of the railing, looking up at the sky.
Nicholas never believed that he'd ever feel this way for someone before, but now more than ever, he could feel his heart pounding. His passion almost bursting.
A small smile graced his face as he remembered how they first met. She had been asking him for an autograph and had apparently thought he was mocking her. They've been through a lot together after that. When had these feelings bloomed. He didn't know. All he knew was that one day her smiles seemed as though they were especially for him. That her eyes twinkled with this hidden secret only he was supposed to know.
Before he knew it, they were seeing each other. All his dreams seemed as though they've all come true. But then the doubts soon started creeping in and his repuation was at stake. He remembered how her lip trembled as she tried hard not cry as he told her they couldn't be anything more. That was the most painful thing he's ever done.
And now here he was, a few feet away from her. He wondered if he should take it. Should he take back everything that he's ever told her, swallow his pride, and ask for forgiveness. As her voice rang in his ears, and the moon made her more enchanting than ever, Nicholas decided that she was worth it.
As he stepped forward to join her, he was surprised when someone beat him to it. He looked familiar, but he couldn't put his mind to it. He watched, silently from the shadows, as the boy laughed at something she apparently said and kissed her on the forehead.
Nicholas heard a crack and he wondered if he was merely imagining things when he felt his heart break like glass.
"I love you," she whispered and a single tear rolled down his cheek. He merely watched as she rested her head on his shoulders and he wrapped his ams around her.
Adelle... he whispered longingly, but she didn't hear him. She merely sat there with someone that was not him and watched the skies.
He left, not hearing her cry as she whispered in her heart, Nicholas...
