Rep. Wasserman Schultz and Rep. Meek to Speak at FMU Forum
Members of Congress to engage in open dialogue with Florida Memorial University students about current political climate and the impact of federal budget cuts on the cost of higher education
PEMBROKE PINES, FL - In observance of Black History Month, Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Kendrick Meek will address students at Florida Memorial University and listen to their concerns at a forum tomorrow morning. The pair plans to discuss cuts to federal student aid programs, the upcoming reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, and the long-term effects of President Bush’s Supreme Court appointments, among other issues. Students will then have the opportunity to address the Members and ask questions or raise issues that are of concern to them, including the UAE port deal and its impact on Miami.
Reps. Wasserman Schultz and Meek are both participants in the "30-Something Hour," in Washington, DC which provides the opportunity for "30-Something" Members of Congress to speak from the House floor about issues that affect the next generation of Americans.
