Ny Times, as reported by REUTERS. (Marco Aquino)
Alberto Fuijimori, also known as the former President of Peru from 1990-2000, has pleaded guilty to charges of wiretapping opponents and paying bribes to lawmakers and publishers during his rule. According to the article, Fujimori set up a spy network to battle the leftist
Shining Path insurgency and began abusing it for political advantage.Interestingly enough, information of these crimes were brought to light at quite the convenient time that his daughter, Keiko Fujimori, (popular conservative) happens to be running for the 2011 presidential race.
I can't help but suspect that some of Fuijimori'se enemies released information at the opportune time to sabbatage Keiko's election. Even though there is no doubt of the Alberto's political corruption, will the public associate his corruption with Keiko's way of leadership? Will this information really sabotage her? Ultimately the numbers will tell in the upcoming election.
