A rare LJ post by me. Ok, 10 songs which have defined me over the course of my life.
1) PJ and Duncan - Tonight i'm free - 1993 : i prepare myself for a slating but i was only 7/8, 1st track i bought with my own money so had to be included.
2) Lightning Seeds with Baddiel and Skinner - 3 lions - 1996 : FOOTBALL!! u gotta love it, this was the one time in living memory (well mine) that i thought we could actually do it, bloody germans. Was singing this song joyfully whole way through the tourney and then ruefully afterwards.
3) Maurice Ravel - Pavane (with Des Lynam) - 1998 : Wierd choice this maybe but at the end of World Cup 1998 BBC played this piece with Des reading IF by Rudyard Kipling. Music/Poem combo moved me and still does, so defo belongs here.
4) R.E.M - Diminished - 2000 : Jumping forward a bit and leaving football entirely, sang this in a music lesson one of my greatest musical accomplishments to date, (nt a musician as y'all know bt i was happy with my job at it)
5) The Calling - Unstoppable - 2002 : RSA, Long flights, long bus journeys, big hangovers. This song coupled with the next was with me throughout the tour. This song also reminds me of the Isaac Asimov series which i was reading (which in turn reminds me of this song) which is a nice combo to have.
6) Nickelback - Just For - 2002 (relapse 2004) : Joint first with Unstoppable for the songs most played while in another country (RSA and USA) Not bad for before a rugby game to fire u up a bit either.
7) Avril - Complicated - 2002 : Ok this song is a big one, should really have 2002-Present on it. This song was the first video i saw on US MTV loved, the next was Sk8er Boi. So went out and bought the album, came home, no-one knew it/liked it. Then about a month later it was everywhere. Also the song played most frequently in the Retreat wen i met louise, so a special song all round.
8) Linkin Park - WTH< YOU - 2003-4 : My clearest memory of this song is an RAF field day of all places, using pure volume of my ipod to block out all around me. I just love to get fully immersed in this track. They have their negative critics but im not one of them.
9) Snow Patrol - Run - 2004 : Still tear up a bit when listening to this song, lets just say the sentiment in it used to get to me.
10) DJ Tiesto - Adagio for Strings - 2005 : This is my favourite of all the Classical/Dance tracks (one of very few which actually works), loved the pure classical version, really love the updated version (does that make me a bad person, i dont care)
Well thats my life (so far) in music, i might update it from time to time, mayb by the time im 40 i'll be up to a top 25. neway l8rs.
