So I kind of "missed" making it to my plane yesterday. Did some quick math and decided she was worth it, so now I'm here for another week ;) Kerstin speaks basically no English, so my German has had to get better every day simply to keep talking with her. It's one way, but it's not accurate. For that kind of comment, you'd want to drop the article: simply vollständig in Liebe. Smitten is more like a crush, but without all the negative connotations that crush has. You know how I am with my English; choosing the specific word for the specific context in which I want to use it, weighing the denotations and connotations as I go. I want to be the same way in German, but I'm not even close to being able to split hairs the way I want to in writing, let alone verbally. Hell, I ran into trouble simply using the word Freundin, since it means both girlfriend and female friend.
I'm making progress, but not quite sure I'm progressing where I want to go lol Last week she called me nicht anständig (indecent), when I was simply taking her out to dinner. Last night she told me we were going to play billiards, and I told her I don't know the rules for billiards, but I do know how to play pool. Save for some goofy deutscher Regeln, stuff like you can only sink the 8 in the opposite corner of the last ball you sank, we were playing your basic, standard 8-ball pool, not billiards. I did say I know how to play pool before we even got there, but now I'm gemein und böse (mean and bad). ~shrug~ at least she laughs when she says it ... and she has the cutest darned dimples when she laughs ...
Best (read: only) shot so far. We were at Völkerschlachtdenkmal about 1. or 2. and I was shooting flashless handheld on H1 (3 steps past 1600 speed film) at 1/20 and 1/10 second shutter. The film speed always adds some grain and a yellow tint, which isn't a problem when I'm shooting buildings that don't move, but creates issue when I have a person in the shot that matters. FYI: "Engrish" apparently applies to German as well. That shirt reads "I Want To Be Me Me". This is after 15 minutes of "attempted" grain removal and lighting and colour corrections:
