Hey La, Hey La, My Column's Back! (Sort Of)
It saddens me that it's been so long since I wrote in my beloved LiveJournal, and I realized that it's likely because in recent months I've mainly used this space to denote and announce the varying successes of my op-eds and This Gay Week in Sports columns for GayWired.com. What with the op-eds being discontinued (and my outreaches to Advocate.com so far still unanswered) and the sports column being replaced by semi-weekly mini-news features I haven't really had any notable achievements to trumpet here (while the Gay Week in Sports column made the top five lists rather often, only one of my regular sports pieces has managed to do the same).
However, when I was researching yesterday for my article due later that afternoon and noticing a good deal of material that was unsuited for a full FreshWire article but was still interesting or juicy, and then noticing what date it happened to be, I made a pitch to my new editor for a monthly roundup, similar in length and style to my former column but encompassing a greater period of time appearing monthly rather than weekly, with the added if unmentioned bonus that the company wouldn't be paying as much for it as the old column (although it would add a marginal amount to my freelance income each month). He bit eagerly, and I hereby present the first of what will hopefully become many editions of David Salter's new column, This Gay Month in Sports!
