1. I have, fortunately, never found something that is really intolerable about my real friends. I think it would have to be, hypothetically, someone who made fun of me or seriously disrespected me behind my back. You are going to make someone a very happy guy one of these days if you care about them half as much as you care about your mother.

(Another thing strikes me: I have a preponderance of bottoms on the FList. I wonder if we gravitate toward one another or if its just coincidence...)

Of course, I am not a "mama's boy" who can never love anyone as much as his mother. And this is not to say I don't equally love my father, or that I couldn't love anyone as much as I do them. I have always been very affected by the feelings of others, particularly sadness or disappointment (not things like anger as much). When my dad wasn't able to go to Italy (a trip he had been talking about with great excitement for months) because of 9/11, I knew, even though he wouldn't show it, that he was crushed. So I made a big Italian dinner, with red checked tablecloth and music and everything for the family, just as a "sorry you didn't get to go to Italy" consolation prize.
