Music of the Moment

Apr 10, 2008 20:19

Welcome to another edition of Music of the Moment. Since my music doesn't change that often, these entries don't happen with any regularity. But I've got some good shit for you, I promise!

1. 4 Minutes - Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake (Hard Candy)
When I first heard this on hair care commercials during Top Model, I didn't like it and was worried it was the new single from Madge's upcoming album Hard Candy. Now that it's played several times on my iTunes, it's inevitably grown on me. It's short, it's bouncy, and hey, it's Madonna and Justin Timberlake! I remember reading about how Madonna saw Justin's manhood for some benign reason and complimented him on it, and it tickled him. I'm a bit jealous. Now to find out when the CD release party at Tigerheat is...better not be during my recovery!

2. In the Waiting Line - Zero 7 (Simple Things)
You may have heard this intoxicatingly mellow and eerie song on episodes of House, Sex and the City, or Scrubs, or on the soundtrack to the film Garden State. I remember the gut-wrenching feeling I got when I heard it on SATC (perhaps due to the breakup context) and the happy familiarity I now have with House every time I hear the song. I think one of the first times I was high...cough...someone I had over downloaded a lot of Zero 7 songs onto my computer that are since lost. It is some good chill-out/falling asleep music.

Do you believe what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real...

3. Taylor the Latte Boy - Kristin Chenoweth (among others)
Lilly Wild talked about this song in the past but I only came across it recently. The performance of the song on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is much better than the version on iTunes or Limewire. Funny, catchy, if not entirely melodically interesting.

So many years my heart has waited
Who'd have thought that love could be so caffeinated?

4. Glitter and Be Gay - Dawn Upshaw (I Wish It So)
I came across Chenoweth performing this difficult, hilarious soprano aria from Bernstein's Candide on youtube, and it got in my head again. I looked through a lot of sopranos singing it, but no one comes close to the finesse, styling or sheer musical genius of the fabulous soprano Upshaw. It is the best song on her brilliant album I Wish It So, songs by Blitzstein, Bernstein, Sondheim and Weill. High C...cower in awe of the Upshaw (only available on iTunes, sadly).

Can the purest diamond purify my name?
And yet, of course, these trinkets are endearing, ha ha!
I'm oh so glad my sapphire is a star, ha ha!
I rather like a tweny karat earring, ha ha!
If I'm not pure at least my jewels are!

5. Piece of Me (Bimbo Jones Remix) - Britney Spears
I love this song anyway, but someone I know has this particular remix on his website, and I got hooked even more. Just listen for yourself. Great dancing or pre-partying music!

And that's my Music of the Moment, for now! Until next time, loyal listeners...

Well get in line with the paparazzi who's flipping me off...

music of the moment, music
