Dad and I shlepped out to Glendale today to see a specialist who hopefully can save me from the agony/embarassment/boredom of sickness. He was quite to the point, but he is a specialist...like an uber-specialist in my kind of disease. This of course led Dad and me to tell about the humorous book titles in his office, namely Colon, Rectum and Anus. Mom asked why anyone would choose that to be their specialty: "So what happens, you say 'well, I've been through ob/gyn, internal medicine, neo-natal surgery, but I think I want to work on sick butts for the rest of my life!'" Emma contributed some new textbook titles for the cause: Butts for Dummies and So You Want to Be a Buttologist among them. Good for a laugh.
.
But the good news is I had a very good day. Although I stumbled into Stater Bros with my cane and shot to the bathroom, when I emerged I had bought Chex Mix, Baked Ruffles and Popcorn and, best of all, walked upright without the cane to the car! The doctor, a USC guy, actually, asked some good hard questions, some in front of Dad and others confidential, and he described exactly what was wrong with me and why, mechanically and physically. Hopefully the two antibiotics (one anti-bacterial, one anti-viral) will help me out, although I'm still in for a long recovery regardless. Must keep up hope.
