After a morning at work and a brief nap, I joined the second outing of the Shakespeare Reader's Society for The Taming of the Shrew. I have issues with the play: for one, I don't think it's very good, as Shakespeare goes, but then again it is one of his earliest works. Two, it is impossible to put on for modern audiences because it is so dated, and I don't mean Rent dated, I mean carbon-dated. Third, the subplot is SO BORING. Everyone knows Lucentio is going to hook up with Bianca, so why does he have to pretend to be someone else, get some guy to pretend to be his father, teach Bianca latin, blah blah when he's obviously the most attractive and rich to boot.

After playing the lovesick hero (yawn) in Two Gentlemen of Verona last month I took on the challenge of a comedic sidekick: Grumio, Petruchio's put-upon lackey. I came dressed in my "Goofy" shirt, ripped jeans, mismatched socks, a loosened tie and a sideways cap, and enjoyed the thrill of reading to roaring laughter, part for the lines and part for my delivery. I miss being "the funny one," because here they treat me more like "the diva," which, appropriate as it may be, is not my forte. It's hard out here for a bitch.

When I got home I dropped my phone behind the radiator. Radiators here have no space for things to fall through: they just capture things til oblivion. Luckily with two wire coat hangers and fifteen minutes of frustration I rescued my Nokia from a fiery death. Also, our fourth housemate (I use the term loosely, for she mainly lives with her manfriend) informed us today she's moving out...fifteen minutes after a woman showed up to look at the room. My poor housemates were so confused.
