I usually don't post picspam here, but this one is on purpouses of
forca_seleccao.
Portuguese goalkeeper Ricardo is my favorite player ever since I saw him at England - Portugal quarter-final at Euro 2004. Because he also need some picspam love, here is a lot of his photos with a few photos of other goalkeepers (Quim included, but there is also one more surprise). Other Portuguese players as a bonus on the group photos.
Large pictures, it may take a while to load.
Moments of glory, moments of failure and also some funny photos because photographic len and especially photographers are merciless. Me too this time.
To part of the f-list not interested in goalkeepers football - skip this for your own sake!
Preview:
Very nice portrait, taken before friendly match with Ireland, his debut in Portuguese goal.
At Betis he was wearing number 13 jersey for some time. Now he is number 1.
I hope that also after last disastrous match with Real Madrid.
Euro 2004 team
World Cup 2006 team
Euro 2008 team
And in evil black uniforms. But Ricardo is in nice light and dark grey.
More photos from the debut match (which I of course haven't seen).
I would like to watch this match.
But Portugal lost it so maybe it's not big harm to miss it. Anyway...
...I saw Ricardo at England - Portugal quarterfinal at Euro 2004. At penalty shoot-out he defended penalty with bare hands.
It's just too beautiful to not post more photos of this :D
And then he scored the final penalty himself. It was like 'Wow! Goalkeepers can also score penalties?' XP (I know nothing about football back then, it's not much better now ;)
That was a beautiful day! :)
Some photos from semi-final:
XD
The prayers helped and that day Portugal won with Nederlands 2:1.
Unfortunately at the final Ricardo was not able to defend the corner shot and Greece won.
But matches are won on a field by forwards, not by goalkeepers and without Ricardo Portugal wouldn't be at semi-final, not to mention final.
Ricardo was back in Portuguese goal at World Cup.
And this time I was watching matches also at qualification level. To be honest they were not too interesting, but from the match with Angola I remember comments from the Internet: 'Two Ricardos in the goals, who is the real one?'
Of course this one.
That was great time for Portugal.
Awwwww!
And as for Ricardo (yes, that's still his picspam) - he stopped England again. He became first goalkeeper who defended three penaties at penalty shoot-out in the history of the Championships.
He saved Lampard's penatly.
And Gerrard's.
Here Carragher shot a penalty but Ricardo didn't move. It was before the refeere's whistle so why bother? XP
And Ricardo did it again. Saved the third one! :D
And another match.
Despite what someone may think Ricardo defended that goal, not concieded it.
He was really good during that Championships.
Quick look at the bench and there is goalkeeper Quim. I like him too :)
And as for Quim...
Finally at qualification matches for World Cup 2010 he get his dreamed jersey with number 1
[I imagine myself Quim jumping up and shouting 'YES!YES!YES!' when the coach told him he will be nr 1 goalie].
No Ricardo in the squad, sniff! :'(
And one more photo with Quim in the jersey with nr 1 (and of course the rest of the team, but I'm focused on goalkeepers). Pity that he didn't kept it too long :( I still have hope he will be back (as well as Ricardo).
But came back to Ricardo, it's his picspam! I like this photo, he looks really nice here.
Okay, just one more:
LOL! The defense at training. Quim is in the background (I will recognize his hair style EVERYWHERE).
Now came back to World Cup 2006.
Despite his great performance during the World Cup Ricardo was not able to defend the penalty which gave France the victory in the semi-final (I don't remember who fouled France player in the penalty box and I don't want to know).
He was so close!
But he doesn't have arms 2 meter long so...
It's really sad!
But no one blamed him after this. His performance during the World Cup was great.
Obrigado, Ricardo. Thank you.
I mean it, srsly.
Ricardo was named one of three best goalkeepers of the World Cup 2006 to all star team.
Unfortunately I must say that at Euro 2008 he was not as good as he should be. But he was not an exception. Portuguese team performance at Euro was far from being great.
It started nicely, but then the match with Switzerland come.
The team before the match.
It was Ricardo who gave the speech before the game to the team. I bet they didn't listen to him or he was bad at motivating them because Portugal lost 2:0. But the worst was yet to come.
Quarter-final with Germany.
[I bet he shot Klose look-of-doom but it didn't help]
Ricardo was not able to stop Germany. Portugal was eliminated :(
Change of topic now.
Some of Ricardo's photos while playing at his current club Real Betis Sevilla. Photos from Sporting and Boavista are in general picspam near the end of the note (it's not the end yet).
It's a mystery for me why he had chosen Betis which is not too big club. It's even worse now when it desperately fight to be not out from the ranking. Change the club, Ricardo! Especially that there is no sport channel in Poland which provide the transmitions of Betis's games.
And photos from this year.
But first a very simple question.
Who the hell had an idea to choose pink for a color of a jersey for a goalkeeper?!
You were warned. Face the pink jersey.
Why not nice blue?
It's another mystery. But here are photos from the match with Barcelona (February 2009).
Watching this I nearly had a heart attack. Dueling with Eto'o in the penalty box. Ricardo, don't do this again!
Fortunately color of the uniform doesn't affect the way how he plays. He was amazing at Betis Sevilla - FC Barcelona match.
Look-of-doom! XDDD If glance could kill... XP One of my favorite photos.
Okay, now Ricardo in nice black uniform, just to give eyes a brake and after this only two more photos with pink.
Unfortunately only a week later (and just after Queiroz, the coach, admitted that they are considering Ricardo for call-up for next Portugal elimination matches) was next match with Real Madrid. It was disastrous for Betis (not for Real which had a happy hour, scoring one goal after another). Betis was beaten 6:1, all goals scored at first half. It was not Ricardo's fault, however, mostly Betis's defense which didn't exist at that match.
Good idea: watch match at lifestream. Bad idea: support Betis because of the goalkeeper when they are playing with Real Madrid.
Another look-of-doom. This time for the defenders I guess.
I really prefer to see him happy.
I believe I can fly.
Another change of topic from concieding to defending.
That's for scepticals. Ricardo really does catch the balls! ;)
Btw. this photo is from the match with real Ricardo and false Ricardo (Portugal - Angola, World Cup 2006).
Another proof. At Betis - Barca match he had 12 interventions o_O
Okay, sometimes he bounces the balls.
XDDD
It's good as long as it works.
And few caps from Portugal - Poland match at Chorzów (fall of 2006, eliminations for Euro 2008).
Before the match.
During the match. Can you see that look full of reproachful? Portugal defense had bad day, left Ricardo more than once in situation one to one, two to one, three to one (on the contrary Polish attack had very good day - it usually happens once a year).
Bad thing of this result of the match (it was first time since 20 years when Poland actually win with a team from the top of UEFA ranking) and of the draw year later (ball bouncing from Ricardo's back near the end of the match and there was 2:2 after Krzynówek's shot - I won't post a photo of that, I don't even have one) is that Ricardo probably won't come to Poland for a vacations :/
Look-of-doom XD I couldn't stop myself from posting this as well. This is Polish goalkeeper, Wojciech Kowalewski, also one of my favorite goalkeepers (but now he is not playing for the national team, nor for his club, hope he will be back). That look was for the refeere who gave him a yellow card.
It was after that situation:
Portugal just scored a goal nearly the end of the match in additional time.
As you can see Ronaldo and Nuno Gomes were trying to take the ball from Kowalewski. Bad idea trying to take anything from him XD I don't now what it was all about because after scoring the goal by Portugal it was Poland turn to start the game.
Back to Ricardo.
Another unhappy topic, friendly match with Greece, just before Euro 2008.
Portugal lost it 2:1. Ricardo's performance was not too impresive.
And now general picspam.
Boavista vs Celitc
Sporting Lisboa time (stupid me, not watching Portuguese League when I had an occasion)
One more portrait photo from his debut.
I hope he would be happy if he knew that finally he get his own picspam XD
Yes, he would be mad of joy.
*facepalm*
Or maybe that's the most possible reaction?
Doubtifull look. Yes, maybe it's not the last picspam.
Photos I used are collected from the web and used only for picspaming purpouses. They come mostly from
Jamd and
Beticos.
