Today I finally finished Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, and discovered that books of his genre CAN be enjoyable and intellectually satisfying. Excellent!
I also discovered that the envelopes that used to house the punched due-date slips are now only used to house computer-generated library receipts. I guess in all honesty I can't say I haven't seen it before, but that I have only internalized it now. I remember as a child getting great joy out of seeing how many times a book had been read, when it was first read, and it some lucky cases, who had read it. Now, just another series of tape-based inkblots, and no home for history.
First, the card catalogues, and now this.
It makes me sad.
