Forgot to write this one down, yesterday. And it's a doozy.
I had a guy come in, close to closing, with a bag full of watches. This often happens, and you'd be amazed how many people want all those batteries changed while they wait. All fine and good, if I have time, but if I don't...you are going to have to leave them.
This guy was going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth (and side to side) about what he wanted to do with each watch. He needed to tell me about each watch. Where it came from, who it belonged to, and the great sentimental nature of each timepiece.
I was brisk, reminding him periodically that I would be closing soon, and he needed to make decisions, and quickly.
At the end of the drawn-out watch exchange, (he only ended up repaired three of the twelve) he told me that he'd once bought an engagement ring from us in 1989.
"Oh really?"
"Yes, and that marriage ended five years ago." *glare*
"...Sorry to hear that."
"Well, I would THINK that you would be."
"Excuse me?"
"Well, I did BUY the ring here."
"...Yes, and were you thinking there would be a warranty?"
He did. HE DID. He thought that I should "do something" since the ring had "no longer worked".
It took everything in my power not to say, "Well, I've gotten rather tired of you in the last 30 minutes, so a woman putting up with you for 18 years...I'd say you'd gotten your money's worth. "
