Gah. To the entire world trying to sell off old gold or silver: None of us care about the history of the item. It could have been your grandmother's, your great-grandmother's, or even your great uncle's earring collection. We weigh the gold and silver, and offer you a price. Sometimes more if we like the look of the item.
The stories just get annoying, since no one keeps them under 10 minutes long. "Well, this belonged to a 90 year-old man who has had me wipe his bottom for the past 5 years, and he was in the service, during...did he say Korean war or WWII? I don't remember. Anyway,..."
We. Don't. Care. I'm sorry. I know you want someone to care. But I've got an emergency vehicle in route to get a ring chopped off a lady's finger, the phone is ringing, and we've got three people in line behind you.
It doesn't increase the value. This isn't Antiques Roadshow. I'll buy your gold for a flat price, or not. Leave story-time at the library.
