So I'm actually doing this "go to school" thing and part of the nice stuff is I can write off 2500 worth of education expenses a year. Nice. However you have to have at least 1/2 a load during a semester. For spring 2015 I pulled 3 credits in January and 7 credits in Jan-April for a total of 10. Found an error in my return. Apparently TurboTax didn't think to ask if my HSA was for a HDHP which is what Allegis has. So as a result it threw the whole $630 part year employer contribution as taxable income when it should be tax free ( Read more... )

Well, the taxes are now filed. This morning I went to the T-Rowe center in DC to deposit the money for Alex's IRA, and found the center had closed. Bad, that would be a serious problem. Fortunately it turned out they moved a block, so I found the new place, went over, and deposited the money. All fixed ( Read more... )

Well, it looks like the taxes are finally ready to go. Need to pop over to T Rowe tomorrow to add $4,000 to Alex's IRA, that is sort of a leap of faith, but it's something that I have always done and should do. Consider it a vote of confidence in the future to come ( Read more... )

Last night I polished off my taxes and sent them in. It's normally a bit complicated since we get about $5,000 back but I have to contribute $4,000 to Alex's IRA before I can file the taxes. So there's usually a 2-3 week period where $4,000 or so needs to come out of savings ( Read more... )
