Sansa Stark from A Song of Ice and Fire
Of course, this was another really broad category. I picked Sansa because she is a very complex character. Sansa starts out as the typical lady in a fairy tale. Or is she? Rarely, in this type of story do we get see how naive and harmful the view of perfect chivalry can be, especially to women. Obviously, she is pitted against her family and sister but I also love little details like how willful she is about her direwolf and how strangely fascinated she is by the violence at the tourney even though she is pretty much the least violent person...something about that fascinates her because it is so different than her ideal and yet what she is trained to honor. Anyway, Sansa is put in such a powerless position over and over and still adapts to it, growing surprisingly strong, intelligent and kinder than she has any right to be. I will forever stan for this girl.
