Day 1- The Most Underrated Musical
Cry-Baby was adapted from the John Waters movie of the same name and expected to be a success since the adaptation of Hairspray was. It ran for about two months. Cry-Baby is a lot of fun but does not have the heart of Hairspray nor the sexiness of Johnny Depp as the movie did. As much I enjoyed seeing it, I would have agreed that it wasn't spectacular...if weren't for one character and her song. Lenora's Screw Loose is a twisted, uncomfortable take on Patsy Cline's Crazy and songs of that type. I was jumping out of my seat excited to see this and genuinely think it made the entire mediocre show worth it. I was waiting and waiting to get sheet music of this. I'm still waiting. :(
If jokes about sensitive mental heath issues are a trigger for you, don't watch this. This is very black comedy
