Setting: Amber Palace - Small Sitting Room
Dramatis Personae: Isabelle and Cyrus
Isabelle is standing beside one of the chairs, her hand resting on its back. Her long red coat is laying over the back of the same chair.
Cyrus enters and sketches a small bow, "Good day, Milady." He looks about the room, "It's been a while since I was in the palace."
Isabelle had been watching the door so she sees Cyrus arrive. She has a daring smile, one side up a little more than the other. "Good day to you, Lord Chantris." Lifting dark blue eyes around the room. "I missed it when I didn't have it. Now that I have it, it seems comfortable as an old shoe."
Cyrus smiles, "Wish I could say the same about Chantris Manor. My home is The Coda." He gestures vaguely southwards.
Isabelle's hip turns as she walks around the wing back chair and sits neatly. "The Coda? What do you mean by that?" And a pause to explain, "I grew up here, but was gone for a while. I feel like I don't know much about the city anymore. Do sit down."
Cyrus moves to a chair. As he lowers himself into it he says, "The Coda's my ship. Most likely the one you'll hire as she's the only one I can take out on a whim, as it were." He leans back and rests his hands in his lap, "I was raised here, as well, but my time with the navy kept me away from The City. Every time I return it's like a different place."
Isabelle says, "Ah. Your ship. That brings me to my point of business. My uncle, His Highness Benedict, thought I should go bring some bridges from shadow. He told me to use the navy. So, we'd be returning with a barge or two. I forget who mentioned you. Taleyn I think, as a replacement for an entire navy." She smiles again, and though it is less daring, her dark blue eyes do shine.
Cyrus's eyes widen and he says, "Ah, Taleyn. Yes, that's not surprising. Nice of her to think of me." He pauses for a moment, apparently in thought. Then, "I think The Coda will do nicely. If these bridges are of the sort that can be dismantled we should be able to store them in the hold." He clears his throat, "However, I am only able to move one ship through shadow at a time. If you need a great deal of cargo moved, you'd do better to seek elsewhere."
Isabelle says, "Oh, I can lead many things through shadow. I will simply need to be on your ship when we return. Two bridges. I think I'll be searching for something we can disassemble, but in large pieces."
Cyrus nods and smiles, "Well, that changes things a bit. It should be no problem, then." He chuckles, "If you can open the ways, as it were, I can handle the sailing. I daresay your method of travel is likely to be less exciting than mine." The emphasis he puts on the word 'exciting' loads it with meaning.
Isabelle, instantly interested, "Exciting in what way? I'm always up for discovering new things."
Cyrus's smile broadens, "In that case allow me to drive on the way out. I've picked up my family's talent for shadow travel but we do so by summoning storms to push us along." He winks, "Don't wear your nice clothes."
Isabelle's hands rest on the arms of the chairs, a picture of confidence and a brilliant white smile. "That sounds like an offer I cannot pass up, no?" In fact, there is a trace of a French accent in Isabelle's manner of speaking. "And so, I am off shortly to help His Highness clear the Arden Pass, and after that I will contact you about a trip into shadow."
Cyrus nods, "Delightful. I'll make sure the ship's ready when you are, Milady." He stands, "I hope all goes well at the pass."
Isabelle rises, a hand lifting to brush the weight of dark hair behind her shoulders. "Thank you. I'll send advance notice if I can, Lord Chantris. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"And yours," Cyrus says. He turns to leave.
