Nah, not a coward. Just lazy ;)

I think I have pretty different working morals from yours. I'm applying for jobs in the UK right now, and I sure as hell haven't told my boss! Because, in your words, if I apply and don't get the job, I've still told her [him] I'm looking.

Because I don't want to upset anyone here. The only two peeps I've told is the colleagues in the office here, so they won't be hit out of the blue if I announce one day that I'm going. But I've also told them that this might happen soon, or in a year, or not at all, who knows? So there's no point in telling management.

I think you should apply for jobs like the one you mentioned. If only, as you put it, to get some interview experience. Also you might be surprised by what people think you can do when you're uncertain as to your qualifications.

/my two cents :)

Ah, I should have clarified that a little. The reason I would need to tell my current boss when I was looking, is because she has done so much for me. She's battled to get us a training budget, she's made sure our skill set is being improved so we can go somewhere else when our time ends here etc. She's done more than she needed to as a boss, and I don't know that I want to throw all that work away by looking elsewhere...
