Prepare for the flood....

FIRST OFF....

Dear IGDA members and friends,

** Action needed before May 13th **

I realize you are likely crunching for E3, but I am writing once again in
regards to AB 1793 sponsored by Assemblymember Yee. Your help is needed to
stop this legislation which will be voted on by the California General
Assembly on May 13th (yes, during E3 (how ironic)).

Despite our success in blocking AB 1792 (ie, redefining games as harmful
matter), AB 1793 (i.e., content segregation) persists and would treat video
and computer games differently under the law than motion pictures, music
and magazines. AB 1793 imposes vague segregation rules on retailers in
displaying video games based on ratings issued by the ESRB. Failure to
comply with these requirements would subject retailers to CA law section
17200 lawsuits. For example, if a customer accidentally re-placed an AO
rated game on a shelf with non-AO rated titles, a retailer could be faced
with a crippling lawsuit. Some retailers feel they would not have any other
choice but to stop carrying all video games rated M or AO, or containing
content that could be considered "violent" rather than risk non-compliance
with government regulations.

Attempts to regulate consumer access to the creativity and expression
contained in video and computer games, which is constitutionally protected
speech, violates the First Amendment. The IGDA firmly believes that games
are a medium of expression that should receive the same level of respect,
and protection, as other forms of art and entertainment. This bill is one
more step on the slippery slope of government regulation, oversight and
control over our creative endeavors.

How to Help
===========

Here is how you can help stop this legislation. The General Assembly will
be voting on this bill on Thursday, May 13th. It is important that your
Assemblymember be contacted about the negative impact this bill will have
on the video and computer game industry, and your career. You can let
him/her know your views on this legislation by sending them an email or
fax. Here's what you should do:

1 - Grab the draft letter, modify if with your name/etc:
http://www.igda.org/censorship/CA_letter.php

2 - Query the legislature site for your Assemblymember's contact info:
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html

3 - Email and/or fax your letter to your Assemblymember. Please CC me.

Also, please forward this to your co-workers so they can take action as well!

The bill is unnecessary and unworkable and would unfairly single out video
games. Lawmakers should refrain from damaging an industry that is so
critical to the Californian economy and discourage our positive voluntary
efforts to address the issues that policymakers have been demanding. Thanks
for your consideration of this request. If you have any questions, please
let me know.

Have fun at E3!

Jason

I would just like to say that I am sick of what the government is doing with my entertainment and education. With that.... Some... other stuff.....

Umm....

Ok. It has been a while since I have posted on here, but I can't seem to get to sleep right now. I have class at 1 tomorrow, so I can stay up a bit late...

Today: I didn't go to school today. I just didn't feel like it, plus I can miss one day. I did, however, get a lot done. IF ANYONE PLAYS UNREAL TOURNAMENT, POST IN HERE AND I WILL SEND YOU THE LEVEL I MADE! I spent a good deal of my day just working on a level I made with the Unreal editor. For those of you who don't know, I go to the Art Institute of California-San Diego with a major in Game Art & Design. It is cool because I can play games and it is research. Heh. Seriously, though, I love my school. When I play games, I don't just sit there, mindless. I learn stuff whenever I play. I also am a Dungeon Master. Mmmm... Geeky.... If anyone ever wants to play Dungeons and Dragons *dun dun duuuunnnnnn*, then just pass me a note or something. My games are usually pretty alright. I like them dark and slightly random.

Getting back on topic... So I made the level, worked on making some textures for it (the pictures that go on the objects. Kinda like wrapping paper), and tweaked the lighting in the level. I got the inspiration from that Brittany Spears song, Toxic. Laugh, you may, but I like it. It reminds me of Space Channel 5. It also reminds me of Space Colony, because I listened to that song nonstop when I played the demo for the game.

So I made a Space Bar. That's what I was trying to get at. Pretty fun, I think. Just IM me or something if you want to play it. I believe that you need at least Unreal Tournament 2003. It works on 04, as well. Moving on...

Steven, Dawna, and Angel came over around 11 or so. We watched some Kids in the Hall. I was too into my artistic whim (which means that I just want to work and HATE being bothered with petty things like getting up and breathing). Those are good times to just work and work hard.

My mom made Strawberry Lemonade. She is teh awesome.

I need to show my dad the new Incredibles trailer.

Come ooooooooon inspiration! *Rolls dice*

Heh. Funny thing about dice... I was in Humanities with a bitch of a test. I did as much as I could, but there were still some questions left. Not caring too much at this point, I decided to put my dice to some good use. I wonder if I rolled the correct answers. Heh. Damn, I love being a geek. Ooh... Speaking of which...

I am soooo getting one of those at Comic Con. I figure that the price would be a bit lower. I need to save AT LEAST 500 dollars to blow on stupid shit. Heh. Once a year and I finally have a job. On that note...

My Job: I work at Suncoast, Mission Valley. I am usually there on Weekends. It is a pretty sweet job, but there are some dumbass customers... Ugh. Sad geeks, retards, old people, smelly people, people..... Yeah. I am not *too* much of a people person. I can have a cheery disposition, but I can control it (usually).

I think that I am going to get a promotion. Unless my manager just wanted to toy with me. 0.o My mom says that Amanda, my manager, loves me and wants to take me to Chula Vista when she transfers. Hehehe. I sure hope that nobody from my work is reading this... Nobody should... I don't give this one out, and I don't talk to them outside of work. Kaleena, the current 3rd key, was late opening the store by 45 minutes! I guess that we got a fine. =/ Not good. Good for me, though. Now she might leave and I will get promoted. I guess that I can take the responsibility. If Amanda thinks that I can do it, then she must see something in me. Unless she just needs a body there for the time being. =/ Heh. Whichever...

Movies in theaters:

Hellboy. Fun. Ron Pearlman is awesome. Special FX were excellent. The monster thing bothered me. Just the eyes... The eyes....... Deffinately enjoyable.

Van Helsing: Leave your brain at home. Be sure to lock it up so it can't learn, think, or get into any other trouble. Lower your standards and you are set. The CG looks like it is more fit for a high poly game, which makes me wanna play the game... 0.o By the by, did you know that Vin Disel has his own game company? They are producing that Chronicles of Riddick game. Damn, that would be awesome...

So, Van Helsing. Yeah... Kate Beckinsale was hot, I think. Not a moment was a let down. It is funny how she can get the shit kicked out of her and ALWAYS land on her feet. She is like a Matrix Sex Kitten. Heh. That sounds cool...

The Wolfman was cool. I liked how the vampires' clothes changed into wings. That was a very interesting touch. Frankenstein's Monster was overacted, but interesting. I want to see Van Helsing: The London Assignment. It is an animated prequel to the movie now in theatres.

Kill Bill 1 and 2:

Don't even makes me says anythings mores...

Kill Bill was awesome. Action gallore, with some of the best anime I can recall.

Kill Bill 2 was a lot more plot based. It was slower, but still good for those Terentino fans, of which I am. Even if I can't spell his name correctly...

Switching topics rather abbruptly...

Games:

The Suffering. Fucking crazy! I got it for Xbox. It is creepy as hell. Take ghosts, old prisons, asylums, and hospitals. Don't forget to add a dash of Stan Winston studios and an utter disregard for the Maturity rating system. Stir it all together and you get one hell of a crazy ass game. Mmmm.... Terrorosity...

Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic. Worth the money. Replayability is infinite. You can be Dark Side, Light Side, or Neurtral (for the pussies out there! Unless you just wanna try it out =/). I keep doing Dark Side. Now I am trying for full on Light Side. I hear that girls' outfits get skimpier as you go Lighter. Funny how the Dark side likes coveralls...

This game uses the D20 system, which is the new standard for Role Playing games. It is sooo easy to use. Just a few technicalities...

Final Fantasy X-2. Heh. Yeah...

Ok. My ear is starting to hurt... I should turn the fan off... Come to think of it... I should sleep now... Heh... Oh well. Goodnights, allz....
