This is a few days late, but WHOO HOO! I was right about the "Chuck Effect"!

Before I explain what I mean by that, let me first say that this was something I predicted but forgot to tell anyone. Since I'm making a rather unverifiable claim about what I thought and when I thought it, I'll first mention a theory of mine that turned out to be incorrect.

The new season of "Heroes" is fun, and I am having no problem with the out-of-left-field identity of Nathan's shooter because the character's motivations have been explained thoroughly. I'd thought, however, that the man seen leaving was someone hired by Nathan's ex-wife, whom Angela may have told about the press conference in order to preempt it. ("It had to be done.") So anyway, that's where I was wrong.

Now, what I was thinking of calling "the Chuck Effect" was the tendency of an isolated database to become increasingly out of date. Actually, since this is typical, I may have been thinking about the opposite action (another reason I should have mentioned it sooner). Anyway, I had figured that the copy of the Intersect in Chuck's brain would become less and less accurate over time, thus making an Intersect update necessary for the series's continuing appearance. Or, you know, the problem might be ignored, but considering that this show targets nerds, it would have been a terrible oversight on the writers' part.

At first, I wondered how unlikely it was that Bryce would have a pair of sunglasses just for that occasion. Then I remembered I'd seen a similar pair at the beginning of "Mission Impossible 2." Fortunately, this pair didn't explode on Chuck's head, though the update did cause the chip to overheat.

Moving on, "My Own Worst Enemy" is pretty fun as well. I only really know Christian Slater from the March 28, 2000 "Absurd Notions." I can guess that this show plays to his strengths, then. But I take issue with the master plan revealed in the last few minutes of the pilot, because it's not reasonable that Edward could have come up with all that.

I mean, perhaps Edward guessed that Henry would wake up in the middle of a mission and blow it, from which Edward might have extrapolated Uzi seeking revenge and Henry being brainwashed, but when did he have the time? Was it that otherwise purposeless "give me one hour" near the beginning, or some time after leaving Russia? This is the sort of plot hole you don't want to run over.
