Hung over

Not on alcohol but food! I've always wanted to eat at Galatoire's in New Orleans. The resturant is one of those sleek, elegant, expensive places where all the rich people go. I just wanted to taste their food to find out what the humbug is over this place. Josh and I decided to head down to the quarter in semi-formal wear (I wore a nice dress, he wore slacks and a sports jacket) and enjoy the afternoon catching their lunch.

With its windows facing Bourbon Street's seamy club zone, Galatoire's first-floor dining room oozes old world gentility with tiled floors, lace curtains, and mirrored walls (the better to people watch, my dear). We had the lunch creole classic: light souffle potatoes, oysters en brochette layerd with bacon, pan fried fillets of speckled trout drizzled with butter and stacked with lump crabmeat and steamed asparagas. For dessert I opted for cherries jubliee and a mint julip. I felt like I died and went to heaven. The food was fabulous and although I'm not a huge fan of oysters I could have eaten my weight in those. The meat of the fish was fluffy almost like cotton and the outside had a light crisp fry batter. And thos asparagas - they melted in my mouth and didn't have that crunchy bite most steamed veggies do. The cost: $152.00. Not bad in my opinion for 2, inclusive of drinks, dessert and a bottle of wine. This place gets my 4 **** rating.
