Where I watch Revolutionary Girl Utena, Episode 11
Well, Touga's manipulations of Utena's feelings have finally borne fruit, getting her to throw the duel against him so that he could claim Anthy the Rose Bride for himself. But as distressing as this development is for Utena, it is definitely the best direction that the show could have taken. Because this forces us to face the question of who is Anthy Himemeya, really? The Anthy we've gotten to know was someone who wanted to break out of the strictures of her life, someone who wanted to be able to open her heart to others and make new friends...but as Touga pointed out, this was while Anthy was Utena's bride, and it is the duty of the Rose Bride to fulfill the wishes of her master. Thus, now that she is Touga's bride, she loves being the Rose Bride, and has no desire for friends. At least, so she says...where is the real Anthy? Who is the real Anthy? Is there a real Anthy? These are questions that Utena will only be able to answer, after she answers her own questions about herself, and her so-called prince.
