GARO: Makai Senki

Where there is light, shadows lurk and fear reigns.
But by the blade of knights, mankind was given hope

The sequel to the original GARO series, Makai Senki takes place after all the various movies and specials produced after the original series and makes use of all the expanded canon that these stories have introduced into the GARO universe. Much as with the last series, the show can be very dark and horrific and there are scenes that can be triggering. So as before, if this would be a problem for you, I again recommend passing on this show.

The setup for Makai Senki is a reverse on the original series, where instead of Kaoru being cursed to die a horrible death, Kouga is. In fact, while Kaoru still gets wrapped up in the Horror plots every so often, by and large she is left alone to pursue her goal of writing and publishing her own picture book, which I like a lot. Unlike with the setup of the original series, this time around there is no sudden change in plot at the last second, so the narrative flows more smoothly that way. In addition, despite having a great many more characters than the last series, due to the addition of both characters from movies and specials as well as brand new characters all together, all of them are well utilized and reasonably well developed given the time available. Also, BADASS LADIES GETTING TO BE BADASS TOGETHER, YES PLEASE THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

Oh, and as it so happens, the ending is an obvious sequel hook for one last GARO movie. Then again, this series was supposed to be the last GARO series to make use of the original cast, so who knows how long that will last. In any event, Makai Senki is even better than the original, and that's no small task. It is really an impressive piece of work.

gender win, garo, badass ladies are badass, toku
