The lives of people are the future of this planet!
Burning rescue Spirits!
Rescue Squadron GoGoV!

The year is 1999, and the celestial grand cross, the positioning of the planets in the solar system such that they form a giant cross with the Earth at the center, is imminent. The Saima demon clan, the children of the Grand Witch Grandienne, awakens and wreaks havoc upon the Earth in preparation for the resurrection of their beloved mother. In turn, the Tatsumi siblings are summoned by their long lost father to fight the demons, arming them with the technology and weapons that he'd spent ten years creating and developing in secret for them, turning them into the Rescue Squadron GoGoV!

Unfortunately, it is the case that only nine episodes of this series has been subbed, and while there are detailed episode summaries available, it just isn't the same.

The first thing I want to talk about with this show are the mecha that our heroes use to fight the giant monsters of the week; they are awesome. They are very well designed with lots of attention to detail, the combining sequences are very well thought out, and the fights themselves are well choreographed. It also helps that the premiers for the mechas are exceptional, with the final mecha's first action being to blow up an asteroid full of concentrated evil by stabbing it. That is a damn badass mecha.

The Tatsumi siblings themselves are no slouches either in the badass department; before becoming a sentai team, the siblings were each members of a different rescue division; Matoi the Red Ranger was a firefighter, Nagare the blue ranger worked in the chemical division, Shou the green ranger a helicopter pilot, Daimon the yellow ranger a police officer, and Matsuri the pink ranger a paramedic. These are people already used to putting their lives on the lines and it shows in how they fight, how they approach the battles and always give it their all. Characterization and development for them is also pretty good.

The villains are also very good; the designs for all the monsters are very well put together, the dynamic between each of the Saima siblings is interesting and well thought out, and when the mother, the Grand Witch Grandienne arrives...hoo boy. Let's just say that this lady is the utmost antithesis of everything any good mother should be. Just...goddamn, this is one evil lady.

On the downside however, the story structure for the show is pretty weak with lots of filler and a few plotlines that get set up but are never really followed up on, while another very important plot point doesn't get nearly the kind of buildup that it should have. Also, the final battle's pacing is a bit off and ends up feeling a bit underwhelming.

In summation, it's a very good show, but the flaws keep it from reaching its full potential.

super sentai, kyukyu sentai gogov, gender win, badass ladies are badass, toku
