Engine Sentai Go-onger.

"Pressing forward on the road of Justice!"

The Earth is under invasion by the barbaric Gaiark Machine Clan, a group of robots from another dimension led by the Earth Pollution Minister Yogostein (Yogos meaning pollute), Air Pollution Minister Kitaneidas (Kitanai meaning foul), and Water Pollution Minister Kegareshia (Kegare meaning impure). They thrive on pollution and have decided to wreck our world to make it better suited for them, but fortunately for us, Engines from the Machine world followed them to our world in hot pursuit, a bird-car named Speedor, a lion-bus named Bus-on, and a Bear RV named...BearRV. Upon arrival they teamed up with an idiot race-car driver named Sosuke, a fussy mother-hen bus driver named Renn, and a cheery concession girl named Saki to defend our world. Oh, and the Engines can only stay in their giant forms for up to ten minutes in our world; the rest of the time they are divided into Engine Casts, which are conveniently the size of toys, and Engine Souls, which can be plugged into a variety of items for different effects. Also, the Gaiark ministers forget to formally declare their invasion until the third episode.

As you might have gathered from the above, Engine Sentai Go-onger is a very silly, very merchandise driven series. But is it good?

Well, the characters are decent; true, they are simple and wacky, but it is established very quickly that these people are true heroes who do the right thing because its the right thing to do, simple as that, so the hijinks and foibles amuse rather than drag. There's also the Engines, the talking cars mentioned above and mechs for the season, and when they're not in giant form, they can project little animated holograms of themselves to talk with their partners. While again simple and one-note, the Engines succeed as foils and complements to the human cast. Furthermore, the human characters do each get at least one good episode to flesh them out, so while its nothing special they do get decent development.

As mentioned above, the tone is very light on the whole. The best comparison I can make is that Engine Sentai Go-onger is like cotton candy, lite and fluffy sweet on the whole. However, there are more than a few times throughout the series in which there is nothing to laugh about. At all. Particularly in the last few episodes, which is to be expected in any Super Sentai.

Now, there is one thing I can definitely find issue with, the Macha Designs. To put it bluntly, they are uncreative and ugly, just cramming in more and more bird cars and dinosaur trains and whale planes together without any proper guiding aesthetic to them.

In summation, there is a moment where one of the villains exclaims "You mean the Red One's three times faster than me!?" If that does not strike you as hilarious or at least amusing, this is not the series for you.
