Where I rewatch Yugioh GX, Episode 152

Dec 21, 2010 14:10

Last time, Yohan summons Rainbow Dark Dragon, which in addition to apparently containing Johan's soul, also has a superior performance record to the original Rainbow Dragon, not only being on the field much longer, but actually winning a duel and destroying monsters without getting you defeated first.

TITLE SCREEN! ACTIVATE SUPER FUSION! RAINBOW NEOS unfortunately, this monster was rejected from the gay pride parade on the grounds that it was offensively flamboyant.

Judai screams some more about how he's going to save Johan, and Yubel opens hir noisehole, saying that Judai trapped her in a dark cold place, so why on Earth would he want to save Johan from a similar fate? In order to make sense of this, you have to understand that for Yubel, there is no such thing "cause and effect" or "consequences for your actions". Otherwise, the fact that Yubel engaged in multiple unprovoked assaults against Judai's friends would make a very big difference here. Judai tells hir to shut the hell up, he's going to kick hir ass and take back Johan, and all this seriousness is making Yubel hot under the collar. But anyway, Yohan still has two more Gem Beasts that sie can attack with, noise from the peanut gallery, and Yohan reminds Judai that there was to be no mercy in this duel. Thus, sie will attack with both hir monsters to inflict the greatest pain onto hir beloved Judai, but Judai activates his trap card Neo-Spacia Road; if Neos is destroyed by battle, end the battle phase and draw one card. Yohan says this is okay, sie wouldn't be able to forgive Judai if he were so easy to beat, and then sie sets a card to end hir turn. More noise from the peanut gallery, Judai draws his next card, goes over his hand, and needlessly elaborates on how if he uses Ground Mole to return Rainbow Dark Dragon to Yohan's hand, he'll just be killed on the next turn. Blah blah blah, repetition of facts already established, and then Judai plays Convert Contact; by sending a Neo-Spacian from his hand and a Neo-Spacian from his deck to the grave, he can draw two cards. Bye bye goes Ground Mole and Flare Scarab, and now Judai summons Bubbleman in defense, and uses the bullshit anime effect to draw two more cards. These two cards are the same ones he used back in his duel against PROFESSOR COBRA, so we'll get a nice repetition there, and Judai just keeps going on and on about how his friends, and by friends he means his cards, have never let him down. It is a damn good thing that no one can read Judai's thoughts, or else he would get his throat slit in his sleep for his asshattery.

Judai then sets a card, and ends his turn. Yohan makes a stupid face that sie made earlier on, blah blah blah, has Sapphire Pegasus destroy Bubbleman, and then attacks directly with Rainbow Dark Dragon. Judai then activates Flute of Summoning Kuriboh, special summoning Winged Kuriboh in defense. Huge-ass rainbow explosion, and Judai is magically up in the clouds...or something, I have no idea. Anyway, the uncorrupted Gem Beasts all show up, and say that they borrowed Winged Kuriboh's power to bring Judai into this place. Yes, that makes sense. You know what else makes sense? Killing off all the decent characters to prop up the shittiest character! Anyway, Judai is amazed that Winged Kuriboh had this kind of power, and also, somehow, the light of this place brings the Gem Beasts back to their senses. You know you're in trouble when even the characters are saying "somehow" as an explanation. Blah blah blah, if Judai can remove the darkness from Rainbow Dragon and restore its true form, Johan will be saved. And as always, a gratuitous reminder about how everyone and everything is dependent on Judai. What a horrifying world. And now back in what will have to pass for the real world, Judai is surrounded by a pillar of light and his life points are safe, and Yohan is pissed about how Judai talked with the Gem Beasts. How dare they act on their own! And again, Yohan makes a very stupid face. You could fill an entire scrapbook with all the stupid faces Yohan makes while trying to look evil and threatening; it would be a laugh riot. Yohan then orders Topaz Tiger to attack, even though this will do no damage, in order to punish it. And yes, it was hurt, but I didn't feel a thing. Yohan asks how Judai feels about that, making hir hurt his friends like that, so now we can add spousal abuse to Yubel's catalog. Blah blah blah, please hurt me Judai, Judai swears that he'll save the Gem Beasts too, and takes his turn.

He draws Oversoul, and plays Cocoon Party, special summoning Cocoon Dolphin and Chick. Then Contact, sacrificing them for Aqua Dolphin and Air Hummingbird. He uses Air Hummingbird's effect to recover 1000 life points, noise from the Peanut Gallery, and now Oversoul to bring back Neos. And now it is time for the third and final Triple Contact Fusion. Judai returns Neos, Dolphin, and Hummingbird to his deck to summon "the strongest warrior from the far-away universe", Storm Neos. Why is it that Judai keeps getting to pull new monsters out of his ass, while Johan had to go through an "epic quest" to get his?

EYECATCH!

Anyway, Storm Neos has 3000 attack points, meaning that Judai summoned it in attack position. Meaning that unless it has an effect to get rid of Rainbow Dark Dragon, Judai has just done something unspeakably stupid. Which would be par for the course for him. Of course, everyone's too busy creaming themselves over Judai's newest monster to notice his latest blunder, and Judai reveals that Storm Neos's effect is to once per turn, destroy every spell and trap card on the field. This will include Advanced Dark, and whatever the hell Johan's face-down card was. Also, when Advanced Dark is destroyed, all of Yohan's "Advanced" Gem Beasts are destroyed along with it, and now Yohan is left with only Rainbow Dark Dragon. Oh, and Shou reminds us how great and powerful Judai is when he uses Fusion. Fuck that little shrimp. And now the Gem Beasts appear before Judai again to thank him for freeing them from Yubel's control. And now all the Gem Beasts are calling out to Johan, who is still trapped within Rainbow Dark Dragon. Johan, who's been asleep, stirs to wakefulness, and when he sees Judai, he starts calling out to him. And Judai can see this, because Arbitrary Protagonist Privilege. Back to the duel, Judai's unfounded inanity is borne out for no good reason, and then he equips Storm Neos with Instant Neo-Space, so that it won't go away at the end of the turn. And then he ends his turn. Seriously, what was the point of summoning it in attack position, if Judai had no intention of attacking with it? What would have been the problem if he'd summoned Storm Neos in defense? Oh, right, because then the contrived plot wouldn't be able to advance, as we will see shortly. Blah blah blah, Judai will definitely save Johan, and Yubel whines about how Judai's gone through so much trouble and sacrificed so much to find Johan, and yet never did the same for hir. See above for why this is just brainless whining on Yubel's part.

But, sie won't stop, not now or ever, not until Judai is hirs and hirs alone. Oh, and Judai thinks that the Super Fusion card is the key to cleansing Rainbow Dark Dragon of its darkness. Sure, why not, Fusion is the answer to everything. Yohan's turn, sie attacks Storm Neos with Rainbow Dark Dragon, destroying it and dealing 1000 points of damage to Judai that he could have easily avoided if he'd just summoned Storm Neos in defense, more noise from the peanut gallery, and Judai activates the second effect of Instant Neospace; when the equipped monster is sent to the grave, special summon Neos from your hand, deck, or grave. Yohan notes how Judai just loves to keep summoning Neos, and thinks to hirself that the time is coming when Judai plays "that card", and one of hir cards starts to glow. Then sie sets two cards, and ends hir turn. Judai is breathing hard, he can't give up now, plays Hope of Fifth to return five E-Heroes to his deck, draws two cards, and ZOMG, one of them is Super Fusion. Cue Judai whining about all the people who died because of Super Fusion, and not because of his obnoxiously persistent Leeroy Jenkins routine and a staunch refusal to ever think about what he was doing, blah blah blah, now is the time for him to "redeem" himself and use his power to protect his important people and not hurt them, all one of them. Finally, Judai activates Super Fusion, discarding his other card (Contact Out), to fuse Neos and Rainbow Dark Dragon. This, for no adequately explained reason, turns Rainbow Dark Dragon back into Rainbow Dragon, and Yubel is forced out of Johan's body. And thus does Judai summon Rainbow Neos, with 4500 attack points. Johan's back to normal, but severely drained from his ordeal, and Judai is ecstatic to be reunited with his one-true-love at long last. Yubel interrupts the tender moment, saying that all has gone according to plan. Yeah, even Light Yagami would call bullshit on this one.

Judai can have Johan's body back, sie says, sie got what sie really wanted, the card that has the ultimate power of the universe, the card that made Judai the Supreme King, Super Fusion. Judai's all WTF, and Yubel explains that hir trap card, Last Trick, allowed hir to add a spell card that Judai just used to hir hand. Yes, all of this duel was just to get Judai to play Super Fusion so that sie could get it back, and now sie will activate hir other trap card, Buster Thousand. Sie pays 1000 life points, and then does 1000 points of damage to both players. Thus, if Judai hadn't inexplicably summoned Storm Neos in attack instead of defense, he would have 300 life points at the end, and would thus have straight-up won. But he didn't. Because there are four more episodes to go, and the writers have to force those four out somehow, even if it doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. Anyway, there's a big explosion, Judai runs to get Johan out of danger, Rainbow Neos vanishes before it can actually do anything, and in direct contradiction to what happened the last time both players ended up with zero life points, nobody dies. Consistency, what the hell is that? Yubel looks down on Judai and asks him if he would like to start the real duel now, and Judai is pissed. End episode.

NEXT TIME! Judai goes to duel Yubel, Johan holds his deck up to Judai, EPISODE TITLE, CONFRONTATION OF THE CHOSEN CARDS! ELEMENTAL HEROES VS. YUBEL card of the week is storm neos.

I hate all this contrived and forced writing. I hate how the writers have to keep smashing the narrative down with a sledgehammer to make it go the way they want it to. You'd think that would be a clue to them that their "brilliant" story isn't, but you don't know the GX writers.

yugioh, where i watch, season three
