A pleasant surprise discovery about Mahou Sentai Magiranger!
So, I find my way to a translation of an interview with the cast of Mahou Sentai Magiranger, and so I read it.

The part I liked the most? Was how Beppu Ayumi, the woman who played Houka the MagiPink Ranger, wanted to be the Red Ranger, and Matsumoto Hiroya, the man who played Tsubasa the MagiYellow Ranger, supported her in this, agreeing that there was no rule that said that the Red Ranger had to be a guy. And while Ayumi did not get the MagiRed part, a fact which left her wondering "Who do I have to shoot" for a little while, I am told that in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, the 33rd Super Sentai series, a female Red Ranger shows up near the end of the series. To me, this says that progress is being made, and I look forward to the day where Red is a lady right from the get go.
