Shadow Play was indeed wonderful, and right on the nose! Also, Anthy is creepy when holding a candelabra that is in synchronicity to Anthy's wavering resolve to not fall in love with Akio.
Have I mentioned how much I love Anthy as a character? Because I really, really do. She's so wonderfully complex and believable - deeply passive-aggressive; jealous; wounded; kind; powerful; and sometimes just flat-out terrifying.
Also, it's very interesting to see that Anthy's the one holding the candles. Just... watching. Is she hating Akio for seducing Utena, Utena for her weakness, or herself for watching (and helping)?
It really is one of the central mysteries of the series, along with the identity and nature of Utena's prince, and I will feel comfortable speculating once I've finished the series.
Ya damn right, he is! <3 I think that best part of this whole Akio/Utena thing is Anthy. Because. Omg. Omg, her eyeglasses. I wish my eyeglasses could do that, fo'reals, yo.
Also, the writer for this episode had a foot fetish.
Either that, or Akio does!
Seconding what other people have said: I seriously, seriously love Anthy. And particularly the creepy glasses glint she has going in this episode. It's hard to say more about her without spoiling the next few episodes, but they do shed a whole lot more light on her character.
