A bit more about me...

Below are some caricature sketches I did of facial expressions and gestures that I drew and scanned recently...

Growing up, all I ever did was draw, perhaps my favorite pastime. To this day I still doodle on any empty space when I'm bored or disinterested in the lectures of my teachers, a bad habit which has landed me in trouble once when I filled out half
the space on the back of a final exam essay with my artistic musings. Coming from an Asian-American background, fine art and anything associated with impractical creativity in the real business world was always strongly discouraged by my dad growing up, preferring that I pursue a prestigious career in law or the medical field.

While I never shed my desire to create art of any kind, my dad's steadily declining health had caused me to oblige him in my early high school years by taking medical science classes my freshman and sophomore year and joining a medical club on campus. Although at the time I secretly and honestly never experienced any joy or satisfaction from the subject of medicine, I sure as hell excelled at it. I was able to advance in a medical competition to the national level in Nashville, Tennessee where I tested my pharmaceutical knowledge against peers from other states. During my high school year as a junior I became a clinical rotation student where I worked at several different hospitals and nursing homes in Plano, at which time I quickly came to the conclusion that the medical field was not for me after a geriatric patient secreted fecal matter on my scrubs and shoes.

Now that I'm finally in college and out of my not-going-to-school phase that caused me an academic dilemma, I'm slightly unsure of my future career. I know that I want to major in English and have something to do with creative writing, but my professional goals are still rather unspecific and undecided.

It's kinda embarrassing when I encounter an old classmate of mine from high school that I knew from my medical classes.

"Hey Khoi, you still doing pharmacy?"
"Nah... I'm uh, thinking about majoring in English. How about you?"
"Me? I was going to major in biology, but I really like surgery so I'm changing it to neuroscience."
"Coooooooool....."

english major, art, medical, drawing, medicine
