I think I'll write journals in English from now on, to practice my English skills.
Arrived Chicago at about 8:00, and unfortunately, a storm came, flight to Champaign delayed. A lot of phone calls made untill my phones went low in battery. My computer is out of power, too. I'm trapped in the airport and it reminded me of Tom Hanks' TERMINAL. I kept on waiting. It's nearly 2:00 in the morning when they eventually anounced that the flight was cancelled. What...!
Hotels were all full so I had to spend the night in the airport. I delete my ticket and found Mr Xu to drive me to Champaign.
Well, maybe this is what so called culture gap. Back in China, the airline company will arrange the delayed or flight-cancelled passenger in hotels if it's too late, and meals will be given for free. I'm not saying the service is bad in US. But in this case, China's way is far more comfortable.
I was told to go to the luggage claim to get my luggages, and it will not open until 6. A couple from a country near India kindly share their breakfast with me. (I have problems in remembering names of people and places, especially when they are told in a foreign language) Buscuits with jams, a most delicious meal i had. They were just sooo kind to me during the long wait, I didn't know how could i present my thanks. The husband was enrolled in a Financing program in UIUC. So i think there are chances for us to meet again : )
I'm not even disappointed when i found that my luggages were sent to Champaign already and i would have to go to CMI ariport to fetch them. There were just too many things went against my will. But why, I didn't feel blue all along, not a little. Maybe because i still have time.
Mr Xu is a talktive and helpful person. He made my mood light along the way. His mandarin is not fluent so we talked in English. This could be the longest communication i've made in English.
5.30, Memorial Day. The department manager who had the keys to my room hanged out. He'll be back at about 7pm. The one who subleased me the room, my senior sister-in-learing, found her friend Chen to take care of me.
Why i'm always running in good good people? XD I was again helped and taken good care of. I was shown the way to nearby markets, told what was necessary to be done next.
I got the key finally. Chen helped me with my luggages. Thank her again, the luggages were deadly heavy.
Then it was the busy tidying and making the place fine and cozy. My lovely little room. My lovely little arrival.
