Lost 2.14...again

No sleet in my neck of deep south. Allie, how you fairing next door?

Anyway, back up your brain and think about another mid-season episode that didn't push the big plot so much as it dealt in weaving the tapestry of the plot and characters relationships tighter and denser.

"One of Them": I gotta say that Sayid's a little scary here (especially that end scene with Charlie that supports torture a little too much for my taste; hell, a lot of the political implications of this ep are either brave or nuts, I don't know, and I'm not sure I love them all), but this episode is so interesting, fleshing out his past and introducing us to our beloved Benry the Hatch Monkey. I LOVE Michael Emerson, and I love Naveen, so this was a good one, even if torture and tension is hard to watch.

I love how the show pulls Danielle out of its ass when we need something vague and ominous, but I kinda don't mind, because I dig her interactions with Sayid. He's strangely patient with her, and he has an odd sense of responsibility for her, it seems. When Sayid takes her quarry back to the hatch, you can see one of those quiet implosions of the leadership network, with Jack doing his doctorly duty and wanting to believe the best, while Sayid does his paranoid military thing, and Locke gets caught in the middle-siding not really with Sayid so much as against Jack, it seems. And no wonder: Jack isn't keen on him either, given that later he uses his crazy!Jack face and button blackmail to get Locke to open the gun vault again. What's even more interesting to me is how they try to keep quiet Benry's existence. But yet half the camp eventually finds out anyway…

I will not speak of Sawyer's behavior in this episode. You remember how freaked out we were, and the theories we had, up to an including explaining it by way of some Others virus he might've contracted. We were a little…worried? Nuts? I dunno. But I'm starting to think what he did is some sort of analogue to the bigger plot here, and if it is, I'm not sure I like it.

But solid episode, I think. Feel quite free to tell me you disagree. Sway me, will ya?
