good night, Eleventh Doctor; good morning, Billy Joel

Jul 20, 2010 09:37

Saw the first two eps of Doctor Who series 5 last night (thank you, bootleg DVD fairy!), and I already know 1) I fairly adore Matt Smith's Doctor (and I didn't think I would) 2) and Amy Pond is made of awesome.

So, I woke up this morning with "Piano Man" stuck in my head. There's no reason on God's green earth that it should be there: I haven't heard it in weeks, and I don't know most of the words anyway. Make it go away, plz.

Speaking of "God's green earth," does that phrase seem funny to any of you who speak English as a second language? I often wonder how our idiomatic phrases and colloquialisms, ones way more bizarre than this one, come across to you. Tell me about one that amuses you, or, conversely, tell me about one of your language's phrases that sound kind of funny to foreigners (i.e., me).

Other things about the state of me today: slept very little because, once again, I absentmindedly took one of my morning pills before bed. They're morning pills for a reason. Dammit. But am now armed with coffee and ready to write for the Porn Battle. Unfortunately, all I managed to do yesterday is hammer away at some fucking mopey-ass Juliet/Sawyer and Rose Tyler/Ten II that might not see the light of day. Here's hoping the muse is inclined to the lighter-hearted today.

Dear Muse,

Don't make me break out the Buffy Summers/Jon Walker + footwear or the Spike/Ryan Ross + accent.

Seriously,

Me
