yogurt and confederate generals

Sep 16, 2008 12:10

So I'm taking a break a few minutes ago, sitting in the conference room of the special collections library where I work, here at this very southern university. So southern it was burned down by the Yankees during the civil war. Dour-looking Confederate generals on the walls stare down at me and watch me eat my fat free lemon merenge pie yogurt. It's absurd, somehow.

But rather more spooky than anything? How the next song that comes up on my iPod when I sit down is Yankee Bayonet, by the Decemberists.

I have fled. I am now at my desk again, and the confederate spooks have released their hold on my technology. Not that Fall Out Boy goes with digital images of coal mines worth a fuck, but such is my life.

music, life in the south
