OMG, we HATES namesmushes!

Jun 30, 2007 14:03

Apparently no fandom's immune to nicknames, but some fandoms are worse than others, and some fandom names are worse than others. So worse they deserve to be taken out back and shot.

(This rant in no way pisses on your pairing, just your pairing's name, if it has one of these.)

several polls, by fandom, under the cut--take them or just read through the choices if you want to be amused... )

silliness, polls

I had no idea what some of these were and spent ages just trying to work out which people where involved in each pairing. I hate the namemashing too, what happened to the innocent slash mark?!!

My eyes burn now.

I think "Addisex" is the worst thing I've ever seen.

And Wincest IS namesmooshy, it just combines name with word. Although it offends me very little.

Yeah, I was totally not into fighting the battle about Wincest, but it IS a namesmush. I hate all the -cest names, including Pacecest (or however you spell the Charlie/Liam stuff) and Weasleycest (which, why bother if it's that damn long a word).

Addisex doesn't bother nearly as much as the others. But I'm glad to be of service in the apalling department. ;)

I went with Jawyer, because even though maybe it's not the worst one (that would probably be Coake), it's the one I have to see the most and I hates it. And I went with Snucius even though Snermione is just as bad, because Snucius makes that pairing sound kinda cute and cuddly, which is the last thing it should ever be.

And thank god SPN forgoes namesmushing! What a relief!

I somehow knew you wouldn't like Snucious.

I think Snupin's pretty funny, too, like a bunch of six year olds sneaking around the house, playing detective agency. :)

Snermione is probably the worst of the worst. *shudders*

What's weird to me is that 'words' like Snupin and Snucius sound so schmoopy, when those pairings are usually pretty damn dark and kinky. I guess prettying up rough sex and BDSM with cutesy names is proof positive that fandom is, after all, comprised of a bunch of girls.

I wonder whether some people do that in real life, too...I mean of course we have Bennifer and Tomkat, but would someone nameslash their friends? Apart from doing it for fun, of corse.

And btw, what the hell is "Blaire" - Ben/Claire? Who would write Ben/Claire???

Blaire is Boone/Claire, actually. Ben/Claire? *grabs the brain bleach*

Being the NORMAL person I am, I did not vote Skate because, LOL, I think it's kind of a cool name... but Jacket just sounds dumb to me... and I LOL'ed a LOT because I didn't know some of these pairings existed at all.

Why do people ship Snape with ANYONE!? *shivers*

SHAGATHON! FTW! (I have NO clue, it just SOUNDS awesome.)

Jacket IS dumb. (The name, I mean; I'm still trying to decide about the pairing...)

I did not vote Skate because, LOL, I think it's kind of a cool name... I can never tell when you're being sarcastic...

I don't get the sexiness of Snape, either. But I suppose there are too many people shipping him with children for me to get into it. *grimaces* Maybe if he found a cold and cranky adult playmate? Okay, so I got nothin'. :)

Shagathon IS awesome! He's this large, pretty, hero type, and she's from a race of evil nearly-human robots. And he knows and doesn't care!, because he's either dumber then he looks (not technically possible), more trusting than God, or totally a kinky bastard. Did I mention her spine glows red when she has an orgasm?
