I know, I need new icons ;; Anyway, as per Monchichi's request, I have a made a tutorial which will take you from
this page to
this icon...err, well, kind of sort of. I didn't svae the PSD to THIS icon, but the orange default one I have. But it's pretty much the same thing, just with bells and whistles.
So let's let Twiggy-sensei bee the cynosure for the evening, m'kay? :'D
Made in CS4, should be translatable.
[[1]] First, we need to shrink the page down to size and fix the levels. If one can notice, this manga is not really up to snuff on dusting. A few tweaks should make it true black and such, so you should be good to go. You don't need an image for this, just make sure it's black and white, OTHER than what isn't supposed to be.
[[2]] next, it's coloring time~! So set your base to Multiply 100% so you can color UNDER it. AND these icons are special~ Color really doesn't need to be something to be picky about, so I just used a really bland skin tone (#f4efe9) and just kind of mess with the colors. And sorry, I'm making a new icon while I do this so you're going to have to live with not seeing the Minato one. Instead, i'll be doing a Pharos one. A warning to those with sight issues; this color is KIIIIIINDA hard to see on white. Just make sure you got most of him colored and nothings really spilling over. For Pharos I did some color adjustments on the black and pajama layers to make it look better.
[[3]] Now it's time to cut him out~! I'll make a black background so you can see it. You can do this with the Polygonal Lasso Tool. I know it's pretty ugly, but bear with it.
[[4]] Okay, so now it's time for a basr image to put UNDER this. REMEMBER, the black SHOULD NOT BE THERE. It's just to show you the cut. Anyway, here's the base I decided to use:
[[5]] No we should have this: ((NOTE: On mine, I went back and redid the cut out, since the right side of his head looked wonky.))
[[6]] Now duplicate your base, bring it to the top, and set it to Lighten 50%. My fickle self moved and edited this again. You must understand I'm making this WHILE I TYPE THIS ajsajdoldjsf. /shot Don't worry, it'll be explained in a sec. Anyway, now mine looks like this:
[[7]] Okay, texture time again. Set
this texture up top at Screen 84%.
[[8]] Now it's time for a new Color Balance Layer. It'll make the image ALOT more brighter and pretty....as pretty as I can make anything, I mean. God I suck ;; Anyhow, use these settings~
Midtones: +43 || -66 || +23
Shadows: -59 || +17 || -13
Highlights: +44 || +47 || + 22
[[9]] NOW duplicate your cutout!thing, bring it to the top and set it to Color Burn 64%.
[[10]] I know, I know. Fugly. Just hold on :/ Take
this spiffy heart texture and set it to Screen 69% TWICE. So just put it there, then duplicate it. I put it a tad bit above his finger :D
[[11]] Although some would call it quites here, I won't because this looks REALLY crappy. So I;m going to put
this orange thing on the top at Multiply 50%. It makes everything a little dumbed down and bearable.
[[12]]Marvel at the piece of crap you have just made :D ALSO you can take your original base at the same setting, which makes it a bit darker:
OR with both at it, which is a nice blend of both:
Either way, you have no made an icon designed by Twiggy. Be proud, people. Be very proud.
PS: This is what it looked like with out moving everything.
PSD?: Right here~~
