Decided against taking that affordable room-- it was only for two nights, and I want to be in San Diego for much longer. I finally got this check from my one insurance company, and aside from putting a chunk of it in savings against a possible strike in the fall, not to mention another bit set aside for a professional plumber to do some much-needed work in this apt, I reserved a room at a hotel for me
hamatokameko -- Wednesday to Sunday (meaning four nights). Not outrageously expensive, but still costly. However, as it's been God knows how long since I've stayed in a REAL hotel, I'm looking forward to it. It IS in Hotel Circle, so it'll be Trolley-travel to and from the convention. But it has a POOL!
Oh yeah-- strike-- the talk is we might be facing one in the fall. New superintendent (who got a freaking $80,000 raise-- last superintendent was making OVER $300,000!!!) wants to totally drop our medical benefits, which have always been a part of our salary, and have us pay 100%. Some teachers think "well, at least we have Obama-care" and when I tried to point out that, when unions brought up this very thing to Congress and the President ( how districts would start dropping teachers' medical benefits), they said DON'T worry we'll fix it so they CAN'T do that.
Right. And what did I get for my efforts? Freaking YELLED at repeatedly by a teacher who I stood up for when the "district" (really our principal) cut him in the last round of lay-offs! I'm still pissed at how he treated me, I was accused of all sorts of crap and he kept yelling and pointing his finger at me about how it was ALL the fault of Republicans and he wasn't going to sit there while I defended them, I KNOW they're at fault, I KNOW all this stuff (apparently)-- and I wasn't doing any such thing, but God, it was horrible. I still haven't spoken to him, and he hasn't gone out of his way to speak to me either.
I never knew that our entire school board and superintendents are Republicans. Could have fooled me.
The only thing that keeps me going at school is my class. I so enjoy them, I'm sure something bad will happen. They'll probably all fail the California Standards test and I'll get blamed. But they're a great group of kids.
Finally over this latest bout of whatever plague was going around. Long may it last, I am sick to death of coughing, wheezing, and feeling older than I am. Bad enough I LOOK older than I am, without feeling it as well.
Guess I should put this mess under a cut? Naw, who cares?
